I liked 1984 but I wasn't crazy about it. I understand its significance, of course. But Slaughterhouse-Five is my favorite - I didn't read it at university though! My second favorite is The Remains of the Day. Man oh man oh boy oh boy!
Haha, I hear you Waltz, sometimes I just like to take a break from all the literary allusions to religion, etc. and just pick up a simple book to read. I actually quite enjoy the Eregon books; although they don't take me very long to finish. It might be because the last few books I've read read almost like all relationships are beside the character. It is very strange, the main character will be in love, but love isn't magical like it is in so many other media. It is almost written in a methodical and logical sense, which is almost illogical. Gah! Gotta stop analyzing my pleasure read! I'm a physics major; not english!

@Ravage Yeah, i've read Eyes of the Dragon, not necessarily one of my personal King faves, but a very good book. And a bunch of ties to the Dark Tower series in there (as with well over half of his catalogue, some intentionally, some in retcon-fashion).
Does anyone read Kim Harrison's Hollows/Rachel Morgan series? A bit of a guilty pleasure for me, but very enjoyable reads; love the characters, and Harrison has a very fluid style. I also must admit to being way too into pretty much any Star Wars EU stuff. =)
Most of my "serious" readings (so to speak; not to belittle other stuff) are few and far between these days; i was a Lit major in college, so kind of overdosed on all of that back in the day, but still have all the books on the shelf.
The last book I read through was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows a few years back... After that I just could never get back into reading books, especially after I was never required to read one for school. I don't really know why, but I can't even force myself to read a book anymore. It's probably because I'm more interested in other stuff like playing video games and surfing the web. It could also be that I was never comfortable with holding a book for long periods of time. I always preferred to read something on a screen with just one or no hands. So I might get an eReader someday like the Kindle and see if I can get back into reading novels.
I have to agree with you here, that is why I listen to audio books. Great for car trips and/or just being lazy

The kindle and such devices are a great idea. They obviously aren't for everyone; I prefer having an actual book in my hands. It may also be worth waiting for versions with some better options, I don't think I could do the pale black and white almost monochrome colour of the "pages". Some people can't look at the screens like that for extended periods. Honestly, I want the best of both worlds; buy a book (real book) and get a download for the same book so you have a sort of digital backup.

I also haven't read much since Harry Potter ended. Not much has really ever caught my interest. In actual novels, I mean. I love video game related books, comic books, novelty books, etc.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
Wow, opened a new tab and forgot to hit the home button and just started typing cyanide into the address bar. I realized my mistake, but noticed that cyanide and happiness popped up on my Awesome Bar (TM). Thought it was kind of funny. http://www.explosm.net/comics/2166/

So... any books coming out that you can't wait for?

Anyway, this author wants to come to my school, and he's a frickin beast author! Hes coming for free, and he actually wants to sign books in front of us!
But needless to say, I haven't read any of his books.
Are you talking about Richard Castle...? I remember hearing that name somewhere, but I can't place it, what kind of books does he write?

He is actually a fictional Character from the tv show Castle. They have published two of his murder mystery books. I'm not sure who actually writes them, but he gets the credit.

I was thinking I would read Under The Dome by Stephen King next; anyone read it yet?
