Topic: Buy Any NPC Games? Stop It!

You know those remakes? Those ones by Nintendo?
Don't buy them. If you do you're supporting a bad cause.

Let's review.

October 07-April 08

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
Battalion Wars 2
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Super Mario Galaxy
Link's Crossbow Training
Endless Ocean
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Kart Wii

Holy bananas, nine games in about seven months? Nine NEW games?

Now let's fast forward to here and now.

October 08-April 09

Wii Music
Animal Crossing
Mario Tennis REMAKE
Pikmin REMAKE
Excitebots: Trick Racing

Wait now what happened.
Not only did we go from nine to five, but two of those five are remakes.
In SEVEN months, we're only getting THREE new games?
What in the world of coconuts Nintendo?

If you buy NPC games, you're helping this.
You're helping old games replace new games.

Now some people are going to say "oh they're just increasing their fan base"
Yeah that's wrong.
The only game that would work for is Pikmin since the Wii game has not been released.

They can't be raising awareness for Metroid Prime 3 since it's been on store shelves for years.
They can't be raising awareness for Mario Tennis when they've only released one Mario tennis game per gen.
They can't be raising awareness for Chibi Robo unless they had a sequel in the works, and I'm not sure anyone would believe that.

The only reason these remakes are being made is to take advantage of the people who haven't played them.
That's not fair. They're depriving long-time fans of new games.

Stand up to this abomination Nintendo Life users!
See someone reaching for a remake on store shelves? ***** slap that ***.
Make it known some Wii owners actually want new games!

Objection

I will definately not buy any that I already have for Wii. Its tempting to get, say Donkey Kong Jungle Beat when I missed it the first time. But new games should definately be the priority.

Oh, AlexSays. That explains it. Look, dude, you gotta realize the good that comes from this series. For one thing, there are a LOT of new Wii owners who don't even know that their Wii's can play Gamecube games, much less would they go out of their way to find copies of older games (some of which are pretty rare...like Pikmin 2). Besides which, these remakes are adding much-appreciated features. Pikmin actually DOES control better than before, now supports widescreen (as all games in this series do), and saves every day of progress so you have to redo less if you screw up royally.

You can't project things based on what's released when anyway. Do you honestly think they'd have so many more brand-new games for Wii ready if they weren't making this Wii-makes? You're just kidding yourself if you do. It takes MUCH less time and effort to make one of these games than a brand-new one, which is the only reason we have them now at all. Otherwise, Wii Music, Animal Crossing, and Excitebots would be the ONLY games released in this period. It's also unlikely that these Wii-makes are really pulling people from development teams for new titles. Nintendo has a lot of employees, y'know. They can be working on different things at the same time.

As it stands, these games are for some reason not selling all that well where I work anyway. If I actually see somebody looking at the box, the first thing I want to do is make sure they know why it's a GOOD idea to buy it. I'm looking out for THEIR gaming interests, and not your self-righteous views of what Nintendo should or shouldn't be doing.

I apologize for being so straight-forward in this post. I feel that I have to when talking to you, because it seems to be the only thing you pay attention to. Even then, you'll probably find some nonexistent flaw in my post. Whatever. I just want to make sure you've at least been exposed to the truth, for whatever good that may do.

Thats exactly why i'm going to buy some of the NPC titles!

Did Sony remake PS1 games because a lot of PS2 users didn't know their PS2 could play PS1 games?
Yeahhh

Oh and Mario Tennis, according to several reviewers, controls worse.
If the same presentation with slapped on controls, for either better or worse, and one new feature is enough reasoning for Nintendo to remake an entire game, we're not on the same page. lol

So you're suggesting without the remakes we still wouldn't have more new games?
The only year we can base this off of is in the example I provided, where we got nine new games.
You're saying Nintendo would go from nine games in one time span to three games in the same time span a year later and I think the majority would disagree with that.

Since you're theory is so speculative though, I can say Nintendo has become lazy and decreased their amount of new projects, and developed these remakes to fill the time in between our long waits.

Hallelujah!
Maybe Nintendo will get the hint and start giving us new games again.
Nintendo might get the idea this isn't 2005 still and we're not stuck in the past.

I've been exposed to the truth for some time know and have decided to include most of it in my original post.
Thank you though for the concern.

I'm betting StuffGamer1 and AlexSays get into an arguement here. That would certainly be something interesting.

So far this forum has too many "What game is your favorite" and "What would you like to see"

It'll be nice to get some actual discussion flowing on the new site.

I agree that the remake of Mario Tennis was not needed. I have the GCN version of the game so you won't see me going out and buying that one. As 4 Pikimin why not just go and buy a used copy at least it would be cheaper than the $30 Nintendo is asking 4.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

Adam

Even if Pikmin and Pikmin 2 play better with Wii controls, I'm not buying the same game to replay it with a different controller. Give me Pikmin 3 and everyone will be happy, newcomers to the franchise and veterans.

That said, it could be that the reason for this drought of new games is because the ones in development are simply taking longer. I think most of those games listed for Oct07 - Apr08 were made by different teams, so maybe they could all be working on new Wii games right now. The best games often take more than a year to develop. I doubt it takes a lot of resources to put out these remakes.

I'm trying to be optimistic, but if E3 comes around and Wii Music 2 is the only announcement, I will have lost the last shred of faith I have in the Big N.

Because i'm not allowed to buy USED games from internet.
And do you know how rarely i see a used game in a store? I've only seen that 2 times.

If i remember correctly, Iwata and Miyamoto both actaull apologized for the last E3, so i think this one should be better and that they'll announce more games or reveal new info on other games they announced awhile ago. Judging by the reception to Wii Music, i don't think there will be a sequel to it.

I didn't know they'd actually "apologized," but I do agree with your expectations in general. I'm pretty sure Wii Music sold well enough despite critical reception, but no, I don't think Wii Music 2 will be announced so soon if ever. It was more of a joke. I meant that if a similar non-game title (even something well-received like Wii Fit) were announced as the big title for the year, that would be disappointing.

I was just posting my expectations in another thread that overlaps with this one a bit on topic. I think we'll have a good year for Wii, probably just one or two unexpected titles like ExciteBots, then one big name franchise for the holidays. Pure speculation, of course. I'm no industry analyst.

Did you know that the next NPC game will be Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. You can now pre-order it from amazon for $29.99.

What does NPC mean? All that comes to mind is Non Player Character, and I know that's not what you guys are talking about.

New Play Control. It's a series of lower-priced Wii titles that are simple Gamecube ports with updated controls to make use of the Wii remote's motion features.

Alright. That makes a lot more sense. I knew about new play control but I never made the connection between the two.

Metroid Prime 1&2 would be fun with Wii controls, but since I already have them there really is no point in getting them.

Those two are the only ones I'm considering to get. I think I'll see which control setup for FPSs I prefer beforehand though, since I can borrow Metroid Prime 1 or 2 from a friend pretty much whenever I like.

I'm with you on the Pikmin 3 thing.
Unfortunately since Nintendo won't want every Pikmin on the shelf competing against each other, we might have to wait until NPC Pikmin 1 and 2 both die before 3 is released.
That will be... a while.

About the whole games thing, that hasn't stopped them before.
They've always had plenty of teams working on plenty of projects all at the same time.
If we're going to say "Yeah they have a lot of people" and "These remakes don't take that long" then what have all these people been doing?
And what about the people making these remakes? What would they be doing right now if the remakes didn't exist?

Bingo my friend!

Mama+Luigi wrote:

Ask someone else.
The chances are very slim you do not know at least one person you can give $15 and have them order you Pikmin for the Gamecube.

Terranigma wrote:

Maybe the GC Pokemon's or the first Battalion Wars, or even Double Dash. Not the greatest selection but just some ideas to toss around.

All we can do is hope these are the last remakes.
Right now Nintendo has more old games than new games lined up for this year, and if they announce more, that won't change for a while.
How long until all Wii owners want more new games than old games? Hopefully soon.
